I don’t really like the heaven-hell dichotomy of “horrific monsters and huge, self-righteous dicks who might also really just be a different kind of monster” that is so common in fantasy now. However, Briar couldn’t exist with the framework of a truly good hierarchy, which would be more black and white, so I needed some adjustments to make a, “Trying to be as good as possible but has room for error the way mortals have and thereby merely just trying their best rather than objectively good and perfect.” Which… balances out with some Feelings I have about more pop culture demons, too (where demons appear to Just Be and weren’t themselves Fallen Angels). But we’ll get to that.
